Name: Mark Spencer From: United States Date: 24th August 2010 "Forensic Pathology is a fascinating field. I guess I would like to be like Grissom, from the original CSI series, as I like to play with bugs. Part of my training as a Navy Preventive Medicine Tech, was pest control which included mosquito species identification."

Name: Dr. Sapna Sharma From: India Date: 1st July 2010 "Great website. It gives a very comprehensive picture of forensic science. Being from a Forensic background myself, I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. Great going guys! There's one thing that I would like to share with people interested in forensics in India. It is definitely not the best option to take up forensic science in India because of the government policies here. Every year so many students are lured into this fascinating subject but when it comes to jobs, these students find themselves vying for these forensic science jobs along with other pure science students, i.e even though you may have done a degree in forensic science you will be in competition for a forensic job with any other pure science student. It's the same everywhere in India. When we say why not change this policy, the answer is - THAT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM! So, I am taking this opportunity and using this platform to make you aware of the frustrations waiting for you once you finish your degrees. Sounds bad but this is the reality!."

So for the last few years, I've been thinking about nursing until I spoke to a nurse who urged me to look into forensics. And now that I have, wow! Yes! But how? and now when I'm so old? Nonetheless, I love your site. Thank you - another impossible dream to chase!! Jilian."
Name: Ray From: United States Date: 17th March 2009 "Hello, This site is really informative but I think there is something missing. I didn't find topics on fingerprints. DNA, Computers, and general CSI discussions are prominant within the site. I am a Forensic I.D. Specialist. The science of fingerprints has been well documented and used in the court system for about 100 years, yet no references on this site explore the field of fingerprints as it pertains to forensics. I find it hard to believe fingerprints have become obsolete since AFIS systems all around the world are working 24/7 to identify criminals. It would seem logical to add a category for fingerprints within the site. What do you think?" Reply Hi Ray There have been a number of discussions pertaining to fingerprints on the forensic Q & A page but I completely agree that a section dedicated to fingerprints would make for an excellent addition to the website. We have been fortunate in that many of the forensic specialties covered on the website were put together by experts in the field e.g., forensic odontology and forensic anthropology. With this in mind, would you be interested in doing a piece on fingerprints? If so, you could either send something via our contact form, or make a direct submission via the forensic science 2.0 page.

Name: Kirsty Boen From: United Kingdom Date: 28th January 2009 "I'm in year 9 and would love to become a Forensic Scientist when I am older. I fully understand that you need to have A-C in most of the core subjects but as I am trying to decide which optional subjects I should take at GCSE I don't know which would be best suited for the job? Any advice?" Reply Hi Kirsty The following information is taken from the Forensic Science Service website. Which qualifications do I need to become a forensic scientist? To become an assistant forensic scientist you will need four GCSEs grades A-C which must include English and either maths or a science as well as an A-level in a scientific subject (biology or chemistry). You would receive on-the-job training, but would be expected to demonstrate a knowledge of biology or chemistry techniques and practices. To progress or to apply to become a forensic scientist you will need a scientific degree at 2.2 or above.
