Fingerprinting Through A TV

I am a high school forensic science teacher and I showed my students an episode of CSI New York a few weeks ago and in the episode, the forensic detectives were able to pause an image of a hand on a tv screen, zoom in, and get a fingerprint through the screen.

Does this technology really exist where they could get my fingerprint through a recording of my hand from a TV screen?
