University of Abertay, Dundee:BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychobiology: Professionally accredited by the British Psychological Society, this unique course offers a combination of psychology, forensic and criminological issues, and biological sciences. Basic psychology forms the core of the programme and includes abnormal behaviour, the biological basis of behaviour, memory, thinking, personality, perception, social behaviour, and developmental psychology. Throughout the four years you receive training in quantitative and qualitative research methods. These are the essential underpinnings for any accredited psychologist and are fundamental to anyone wanting to train in the future as a forensic psychologist. A number of modules focus wholly on forensic issues with police interviewing, eye witness testimony, face recognition, legal and courtroom psychology being addressed. In addition, the causes of crime from a psychological perspective are examined in an introductory module and an advanced module on criminal behaviour. The course provides studies on the psychology of crime, psychopathology, deviance, and models of offending. In addition, the life sciences discuss techniques that aid in the detection of criminals and you will learn about these in modules on genetics, crime scene analysis, and forensic case studies. Criminal psychology is an exciting and broad area of study which pulls together physical and psychological evidence in this course. This is exemplified by 4th year modules that examine crime scene analysis and offender profiling under the biological sciences area. The science basis for this course produces graduates that are in great demand and the basic psychology affords an alternative career path in psychology.
