What To Expect With An Exhumed Body

by Curious
(United States)

I will be exhuming my husband who died 1.5 years ago. I need to be able to view him before having him cremated. He was buried without my consent while I was in hospital. I never had the opportunity to see him or handle his arrangement per his wishes.

He was embalmed within 24 hours and was put in a hermetically sealed coffin. He was 6 feet, 220 pounds. I understand there will be extreme decomposition and skin slippage, etc. but will he be at all recognizable or will he be in skeletal state?
