&lt;b&gt;Job Description&lt;/b&gt;

The Virginia Department of Forensic Science is seeking court qualified Forensic Toxicologists to perform postmortem and human performance toxicology (DUI/DUID) at their Northern or Central regional laboratories, located in Manassas and Richmond, respectively. Responsibilities include independently performing analyses of human biofluids and tissues, developing/ validating analytical methods, interpreting results, preparing Certificates of Analysis, and interpreting and defending analyses in courts of law. Overnight travel is required and employee will provide own transportation as required.

In the event a fully qualified Forensic Toxicologist candidate cannot be employed, a trainee position may be offered to the most suited candidate within a salary range of $55,568 - $70,921. Upon successful completion of training, the trainee&#39;s salary will be established within the salary range for a qualified Forensic Toxicologist. The training will take place at one of the DFS laboratories and will last approximately 12 months, dependent upon the qualifications of the selected candidate. The trainee candidate must meet the educational requirement stated in the qualifications below (a PhD). 

&lt;b&gt;Minimum Qualifications&lt;/b&gt;

A Ph.D. in toxicology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology or closely related scientific field (either sufficient toxicology courses or experience in forensic toxicological analyses). Applications will be considered from individuals who will receive their Ph.D. within approximately 3 months of filing their application. Before employment can be considered, verification of the degree, or confirmation from the graduate program of expected completion of the degree, is required. The selected candidate must have been awarded the degree by the start of employment.

Completion of a recognized training program in &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.all-about-forensic-science.com/forensic-toxicology.html&quot; target=&quot;_blank&quot;&gt;&lt;font color=&quot;#0000FF&quot;&gt;forensic toxicology&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/a&gt; and a moot court (candidate will be expected to successfully demonstrate proficiency in testifying in a courtroom as an expert witness); experience in the performance of toxicology laboratory procedures utilizing analytical instrumentation; effective oral and written communication skills; a valid driver&#39;s license and/or other means of reliable transportation.
