It really depends on your geographical location. For example, I work in CA and have over 6 years caswork experience. I make over $70k/year, but the cost of living here is very high. I'm sure that $40-50k somewhere else would be comparable. It all depends... if you have passion and love the science, go for it, not for the money... there are other ways to make more money !!!
