Forensic Microbiology

I am attending nursing school in Indianapolis and I am currently researching a specific topic related to forensics for my microbio class. I would like to know the different kind of media used for testing i.e, if someone died in a hospital and the family suspected toxicity and wanted an investigation.

What would be collected, how would it be collected, and what type of tests would be done or what type of growth cultures would be used? Any information would be helpful. Thank you!
